Our Process

We do the research so you don’t have to. Here’s how we collect and evaluate all the info you need to make a confident decision.

We experience appointments firsthand by visiting each jeweller’s store. From staff knowledge and professionalism to overall service and in-store experience, we assess every detail through mystery shopping—conducted by our team in Australia or paid shoppers globally.

We gather information directly from jeweller websites, including warranty, return, and repair policies, product prices, customisation options, and more.

We dive deep into customer reviews to uncover insights about post-purchase care, long-term ring quality, and more.

For anything we can’t find online or in-store, we contact jewellers anonymously through live chat, email, or phone to fill in the gaps.

We purchase and unbox rings, testing them against a range of criteria to evaluate overall quality.

To ensure fairness, we peer-review subjective categories against our detailed rubric. Once complete, we use all the collected data to write and publish clear, honest, and informative reviews.

Our Values

Clarity

We believe choosing a ring shouldn’t be overwhelming. That’s why we bring clarity to a confusing and daunting buying experience by helping you easily compare jewellers across a wide range of criteria and presenting information in a simple, straightforward way. No jargon, just the facts you need.

Objectivity

Honesty is at our core. We’ve developed a detailed rubric to help us rate jewellers fairly. See our rubric here/below.

Accessibility

We do the hours (and we mean hours) of research so you don’t have to. With all the info you need, all in one place, choosing the right jeweller just became exciting instead of intimidating.

Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of who we are. We prioritise this value in our reviews and ratings and celebrate jewellers who make a conscious effort to care for the environment and make a positive impact.

Our Tests

We physically test rings for durability, craftsmanship and more to see if you should trust them. Here’s how we do it.

01

Unboxing

We unbox rings on camera and assess every step of the process - is the packaging discreet? Is it aesthetically pleasing? Does it feel like it’s made from quality materials? We also check for important inclusions like diamond certificates, polishing cloths, or complimentary gifts.

02

Polish test

The polish of a ring starts to degrade as soon as it is touched. That’s why our polish expert is the first person to touch the ring to ensure our assessment is as accurate as possible. We inspect for scratches, visible solder joins, porosity, and pitting to determine if the polish is up to standard or falls short.

03

Examination

Using a microscope, we get up close and personal with each ring: Are the claws centred and symmetrical? Are the melee stones secure? Are there any cracks in the metal? Nothing escapes our lens.

04

Cloth test

We rub the centrestone and its claws with a fine cloth to check for any fibres catching.

05

Drop test

Rings are dropped from a height of 1m, 10 times. After five drops, and again after 10, we inspect for loose stones or other signs of impact damage.

06

Claw test

We carefully bend back the claws to test their durability, examine the alloy, and check how secure the centrestone remains.

07

Saw test

We saw through the band to confirm the metal’s quality—whether it’s solid, hollowed, or plated with a lesser material.

Our Focus

Category Weighting Considerations
Ring Quality 18.2 We consider publicly available reviews regarding a jeweller’s ring quality. After purchasing a ring from the jeweller, we: Assess the ring polish Inspect the ring under a 50x microscope and take note of any imperfections Run a cloth over the face of the centre stone to see if any fibres get caught in claw tips Drop the ring ten times from a height of one metre to assess the security of the stone settings Bend back prong claws Saw through the base of the shank to assess metal quality
Ethics & Sustainability 7.5 We assess efforts by the jeweller to: Reduce their carbon footprint Source materials sustainably Give back to their community
Customer Service 6.5 We consider: The professionalism of the sales consultant Whether the sales consultant applied pressure to make a purchase Whether the sales consultant was responsive to the mystery shopper’s questions The greeting process Whether the sales consultant explained the prices of the offerings Customer reviews regarding customer service
